O Kitchen: Korean Food Goodness

12:18 AM

O kitchen is located at one of the famous entertainment city in Manila, City of Dreams. We were craving some korean food and we decided to try out this fancy restaurant. We decided to order the following: Assorted Sashimi, Pork belly with cuts, assorted tempura and snowflower bingsoo for our dessert. We were also served with their signature free appetizers and all of it tastes really good.

Sample appetizers

Assorted Sashimi (1,700) - combination of tuna, salmon, octopus, lapu-lapu, hamachi, sweet shirmp and sea urchin. As a sashimi lover, I can easily detect that all of the sashimi that were served to us were fresh and it didn't disappoint
Assorted Sashimi

Shrimp tempura (870php) - The shrimp tempura also comes with a breaded onion rings. The shrimp itself was huge and didn't disappoint and complemented well with the food we have.

Shrimp Tempura

Pork belly with cuts (500php) - The crew asked us if we wanted to have it cooked in their kitchen or have it grilled in front of us. We told the crew to just grilled the pork belly in front of us and the smell of the pork belly would really want you to eat it immediately. The pork was soft, tender and flavorful (and best to be paired with lettuce and kimchi).

Lettuce
Snowflower bingsoo (350php) - The perfect dessert to cap off our sumptuous korean dinner. The mangoes were sweet (just enough to equalize all the food we ate earlier) and every bite on their shaved ice is worth eating.

Snowflower bingsoo

Overall, we had a great time in dining in this Korean restaurant. The crew were accommodating to us and we are definitely coming back if ever we're in the area again.

Shawarma Shack: Bang For The Buck Shawarma Meal

1:06 AM

Shawarma nowadays popped everywhere and most of them have a unique way to offer. Shawarma Shack is the first and original buy one take one Shawarma meal in the metro and I was invited to try it out on their branch in FirstStrip, Mendiola.

The crew and staff welcomed me with a warm greeting. I wanted to try all of the food in their menu list but their Chicken Shawarma were already sold out by the time I arrived in their shop. So they gave me their Beef Shawarma Wrap and Beef Shawarma Rice meal instead.

Beef Shawarma Wrap (Regular: 69php; Large: 89php) - Beef shawarma served with pita bread cucumber, tomatoes, onions and three sauces of your choice (garlic mayonnaise, cheese sauce and hot sauce). You could easily tell that the beef was pure (it was also flavorful) and not made with extender. The pita was soft perfectly cooked the way I wanted and the other toppings complemented well with the beef (props to their cheese, which is a cube stick HAHA)

Beef Shawarma Wrap

Beef Shawarma Rice (70php) - Beef shawarma served with cucumber, tomatoes, onions and three sauces of your choice (garlic mayonnaise, cheese sauce and hot sauce). If you are an adventurous type of person like me, it's best to eat it with the three sauces available (it has the right balance of sweet, spicy and salty). I liked that their rice was saute with garlic giving you that extra uhmp when eating the meal.

Beef Shawarma Rice

Overall, I really enjoyed eating both their Shawarma wrap and Shawarma rice and would definitely come back to try out their Chicken wrap and rice meal. I personally think that their shawarma wrap has a similar taste (even better for me) with the leading Shawarma brand right now and the best part was you could buy not one but two Shawarma wrap at a very affordable price.

Bang for the buck meal!

With the pretty owner of Shawarma Shack. :)

Casa Roces: Keeping the legacy alive

12:57 AM

Casa Roces has been around as early as the Pre-World War II era. It was owned by one of the prominent families that survived through the generations of the Spanish, American and Japanese colony in the Philippines. This was also used to be the home of the National Artis Alejandro Roces, a freedom fighter and newspaper publisher Joaquin "Chino" Roces and painter and essayist Alfredo R. Roces, it was converted by Roces descendants Mercedes "Peachy" Prieto and her daughter Bianca Prieto-Santos into a Filipino-Spanish themed restaurant. Located just across the Malacanang palace, the restaurant feels elegant yet dated because of the interior, the different frames displayed on the wall.

We ordered Sopa Molo Castiliana and Oyster Mushroom Frittura as our appetizers, Callos a la Abuelita, Pinakbet with Vigan Bagnet, Pork Stew Binagoongan and Paella Valenciana as our main entrees and we ended our meal with Turon a la Mode and Leche Flan Brulee

Sopa Molo Castiliana (good for 3, 210php) - A rich garlic soup with deep fried pork dumplings, poached egg and parsley. Comfort food that started our meal

Sopa Molo Castiliana

Oyster Mushroom Frittura (200php) - Oyster mushrooms deep fried to perfection and served with spicy marinara. The fried oyster really complemented well with the spicy marinara sauce.

Oyster Mushroom Frittura

Callos a la Abuelita (315php) - Soft tripe stew with chorizos and chick peas. The soft tripe paired chorizo's are spot on to our palate.

Callos a la Abuelita

Pinakbet with Vigan Bagnet (210php) - Stewed vegatables in bagoong Balayan topped with crunchy pork. The stewed vegatables balances out the deadly yet sumptuous bagnet on this meal.

Pinakbet with Vigan Bagnet

Pork Stew Binagoongan (310php) - Crunchy pork belly with string beans and cherry tomatoes sauteed in shrimp paste

Pork Stew Binagoongan
Paella Valenciana (565php) - Classic Valenciana style paella with chicken, pork, clams, mussels with chorizo and hard boiled egg toppings. One of the best paella that I have tasted.

Paella Valenciana

Turon a la Mode (165php) - Fried banana rolls filed with ube jam served with caramel langka sauce and mantecado ice cream

Turon a la Mode

Leche Flan Brulee (415php) - Rich custard coated with caramelized sugar

Leche Flan Brulee

Overall, we really did enjoyed dining in this restaurant. The food was superb, the ambiance was cozy and this is a perfect place for people to relax, unwind and enjoy the legacy and heritage that this restaurant offers. Reservation on this restaurant (especially for large groups) are highly recommended. Valet parking is available.

All smile after that sumptuous meal

Tsuta: 1st Michelin-Star Awarded Ramen House

1:44 AM

The long wait is finally over. Tsuta, the world's first Michelin-starred Ramen house in Tokyo had officially opened last December 16 at the Bonifacio High Street Central. Tsuta originated from Chef Oinishi Yuki ancestral home and the noodle itself is called Soba instead of Ramen.

The place can accommodate up to 40 pax with the bar seats in front of the kitchen to see how the Ramen is actually done. We ordered Shoyu Soba, Shio Soba and Char Siu Miso Soba.

Shoyu Soba (390php) - Char Siu (1 slice), bamboo Shoot, Leek and Truffled pureed in truffled oil. It has a light but well-flavored broth

Shoyu Soba

Shio Soba (390php) - Char Siu (1 slice), bamboo Shoot, Leek and Green olives pureed in truffled oil. The green olives complemented with the broth.

Shiyo Soba

Char Siu Miso Soba (410php) - Char Siu (4 slices), early red onion, corn, beansprouts, hot sauce Porcini mushroom, oil and Watercress. It's not that spicy and if you are a spice lover, you need to request for an extra hot sauce for this one.

Char Siu Miso Soba

Out of the three Ramen that I've tasted, I liked the Shoyu Soba. The broth was light but well-flavored. The noodles were thin and firm. The Ramen itself is not everyone's cup of tea since many of us are used to have heavy, thick and creamy Ramen and this one is the complete opposite of what we used to eat.

Overall, we still enjoyed eating Ramen at this Michelin-star restaurant. They have a pretty fast serving time and the crew were accommodating to our needs.

Wooden Spoon: Elevating the filipino food we love to eat

11:00 PM

Wooden Spoon is a filipino restaurant located at the basement level or Powerplant Mall in Makati. The restaurant is owned by the Daza family and they have their own take on our favorite filipino food. The ambiance reminds you of the old traditional Filipino houses. We ordered dinuguan bagnet, lechon kawali, sitaw sa gata, dinakdagan sa lechon and garlic rice.

Dinuguan bagnet (245php) - the recipe came from Ilocos norte and what made this dinuguan special is that they have maintained the crunchiness of the Bagnet event though it was already dipped in dugo. A truly must-try order for Wooden Spoon.

Dinuguan

Lechon kawali (265php) - this is one of every Filipino's favorite dish. To make it more unique, they add three different dips (vinegar, mayo with pesto-ish taste and sarsa sauce) for you to enjoy the lechon kawali.

Lechon Kawali

Dinakdak na lechon (265php) - A combination of kilawin flavor of dinakdakan and the crunchy lechon kawali. Both of them really complemented and taste good.

Dinakdak na lechon

Sitaw na Gata (150php) - A combination of squash, string beans simmered in coconut milk then topped with toasted young anchiovies. This is the first time that I've tried that anchiovies was put instead of shrimp or pork and it perfectly blends well with the coconut milk and squash.

Sitaw na Gata

Garlic rice (140php) - White rice seasoned and stir fried then garnished with chopped spring onions and toasted garlic. One of the best garlic rice I've ever tasted.

Garlic rice

We enjoyed dining in this filipino restaurant. Nora Daza and Chef Sandy Daza really did a great job of elevating the Filipino food that we always love to eat.

Ramen Kuroda: Affordable 180php Ramen

1:54 AM

I have always been a Ramen lover and whenever I am craving a bowl of it, the normal price of it ranges from 350php-500php. I recently heard Ramen Kuroda and a bowl of Ramen would only cost you 180php. There's one branch in Mandaluyong and I immediately went for it to try their Ramen.

Salmon Sashimi (300php) - Started my meal with this fresh sashimi. Almost the same with the other sashimi (because you could easily tell that it's fresh)

Salmon Sahimi

Shiro Ramen (180php) - Tonkotsu based ramen with chashu and egg. The soup was basic (in a good way) creamy and flavorful and complements well with the chashu on it. This is my personal favorite out of the three ramen.

Shiro Ramen

Aka Ramen (180php) - This ramen has a hint of spiciness which would make you want to eat more. I am certain that spice lovers would definitely enjoyed this ramen

Aka Ramen

Kuro Ramen (180php) - It is almost the same as the Shiro Ramen, but the difference was its distinctly garlic flavor that would make your taste buds satisfied.

Kuro Ramen

Overall, I really enjoyed the Ramen here in Ramen Kuroda (all of their noodles were cooked firm just the way what I liked on a noodle ramen). If you are craving for a good ramen but your budget is limited, this would certainly not disappoint you.

P.S - They have an UNLIMITED NOODLE for FREE in ALL SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS OF NOVEMBER! Just dine and order any of your favorite Ramen, Chashumen, or Set Meal.

Tori Ichi Yakitori and Bar: Japanese grilled and seasoned meat in skewers

8:48 PM

Tori Ichi Yakitori is a japanese restaurant which originates from Kyoto region where it uses premium charcoal called Binchotan when cooking the yakitori. The Epicurean Partners Exchange, Inc. group  brought the concept here in the Philippines. Since my family loves japanese cuisine, we decided to give this restaurant a try. We ordered spicy tuna roll, Ikura Sushi, Red tuna, salmon, katsudon, Moyashi No Pirikara Itame and variations of yakitori dishes.

As soon as we  were seated, we were given a complimentary appetizer of fried achovies. It was a good start for our meal.

Fried anchovies

Red tuna and Salmon sashimi (both 250php) - You can never go wrong with a pair of red tuna and salmon sashimi. You can easily tell that both were fresh.

Red tuna
Salmon Sashimi

Ikura Sushi (135php) - Ikura sushi is a salmon roe which is a bit odd at first but you'll love it on the second bite. It's creamy and has a rich flavorful taste.

Ikuri Sushi

Moyashi No Pirikara Itame (135php) - spicy bean sprout with pork belly. The little touch of spice works on the pork and makes you want to eat more.

Moyashi No Pirikara Itame

Spicy tuna roll (135php) - A pretty decent one. It's not that good at the same time not that bad.

Spicy tuna roll

Pork Katsudon (135php) - I will always be a fan of katsudon and their version didn't disappoint me. The serving was big, the pork was juicy, the breading was not bad and it really complemented well with it's gohan rice

Pork Katsudon

Tomodachi Set (550php) - They have a promo that if you buy 10 yakitori sticks, it would only cost you 550php and would save as much as 165php. I loved all the yakitori food that we ordered. It gave me that smoky taste without the odd burn taste. Their pork belly was the best out of all the yakitori that we tasted. It was not that fat and the taste was divine. Their yakiniku was also good too, it was soft and flavorful too.

We really had a great time dining in the restaurant and we just hope that the service would be faster next time since we waited for almost 30 minutes for our food to be served. Will I go back to this restaurant? Yes, since they have a pretty good yakitori selection and would still want to try the other as well.
